Jaameh Proven Power in QE Stakes
Shadwell Stud-owned stayer, Jaameh (IRE) may have fallen short of forcing his way into the Melbourne Cup, but he claimed a consolation with victory in the Gr 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m) at Flemington.
Jaameh, a 6yo Irish-bred gelding by Iffraaj (GB) finished a close second in The Bart Cummings at Flemington earlier this spring and then was third in the Lexus Stakes last Saturday, with both those races carrying Melbourne Cup ballot exemptions to the winner.
After being balloted out of the Cup on Tuesday, Jaameh added a $100,000 bonus to his Queen Elizabeth win, which was on offer to the winner if they had been balloted out of the Melbourne Cup.
David Hayes hopes Saturday’s victory lifts Jaameh’s rating enough for inclusion in the 2019 Melbourne Cup while in the shorter term the Sydney Cup in the autumn shapes as an option.
Congratulations to Sheikh Hamdin bin al Rashid whose famous Shadwell colours once again saluted on Australian soil and to manager, Angus Gold who was in Melbourne to watch him win and lead him in on the famed Flemington track.
